Our seminars will discuss best practices for faculty-led programs. We focus on how providers and sending schools can work together to provide programs that are accessible to a wide range of students, and that deliver structured and focused academic learning outcomes compatible with the ethos and goals of the college courses. Topics will include timelines for programming, ensuring academic excellence, effective methods of collaboration between study abroad advisors and faculty leaders, models for new initiatives and collaborative/consortia projects, program promotion to students, and a successful integration of study abroad goals with the overall goals of the sending institutions. Our seminars are conducted by experienced study abroad professionals from the U.S. and expert providers in Ireland. Forum Objectives It is widely acknowledged that students who get the opportunity to travel abroad can have transformative learning experiences. However, administrators and faculty are keen to develop study abroad programs that are integrated with institutional goals such as interdisciplinary teaching, the development of critical and comparative thinking, and personal development. Study trips that are included as a course component and are evaluated accurately in terms of evidence of learning, and of value to the institution and leading faculty, are now the goal. A well-executed and planned short-term program as a component of a college or school course requires engagement and expertise, from curriculum planning to the logistics of travel, and demands the engagement of administrators, faculty, the study abroad providers, and the travelling student. For many students, programs are also required to be affordable, accessible and appealing to a diverse student body. Provisional Itinerary THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 22
